Under general supervision, the Interventional Radiographer Technologist will cooperate with the Interventional Radiologist, nurses, anesthesia personnel and all staff members to ensure a safe outcome for the patient. The IR technologist will perform after hours call including availability to answer questions regarding service. He/she will operate the technical imaging equipment related to patient care imaging, image processing, image transmission, importing of images and all aspects of the Radiology Information System as required of the IR technologist. The IR Technologist will perform imaging procedures using standardized protocols, producing the highest quality images for interpretation by the Radiologist. He/she will assist the Radiologist with IR procedures to include the administration of contrast media, procedure/room set up and assist with biopsies/drainages, procure lab specimens as directed by the Radiologist. The IR technologist is required to know sterile technique and perform as a “scrub tech” for the radiologist. The Interventional Radiographer technologist will be responsible for the maintenance and preventative maintenance of the IR room. He/she will order and maintain all supplies and be responsible for monitoring expiration dates. The IR Technologist will assure that charge reconciliation has been performed daily. The IR Technologist will assure that radiologist protocols are maintained and current at all times.
